Homemade Stockings!

I ended up buying a old hudson bay striped sweater for the stockings. I know it was "vintage" because there was a shred of a 3 musketeers wrapper in the pocket. (I'd recognize that silver wrapper anywhere.)

To make the stocking:
I drew a stocking shape on a piece of newspaper and used it as a template.
Pinned it down on the sweater and cut around it through both the front and back of sweater.
Sewed the two pieces together, leaving the top open.
Took the edging off the bottom of the sweater and sewed it to the top of the stocking for trim.

Seams from the sweater ended up in the body of the stocking, giving me little bonuses like surprise pockets!

Ta-da!

Holiday Prep with eBay

I'm getting excited to spend the holidays in my new home and want to decorate with Christmas stockings. I was looking around for some vintage, knit ones when it occurred to me to cut up old sweaters and make the stockings myself! Above are some sweaters I found on eBay that would make good stockings. I'll keep you posted on my progress.

Holiday Shopping on Ebay

In the spirit of being green, I've decided to give vintage gifts for the holidays. I successfully did it last year (via eBay) and am going in for a second round. My plan is to share the fruits of my eBay-hunting skillz by posting what I think would make great nifty-gifties every Tuesday.

On another note, I should probably just change this to a straight-up eBay blog.
